GUIDING STAR sound is an artist crew representing and promoting Reggae Music and Jamaican tradition in France and in Europe.
They belongs to a new generation of artists that develop the reggae culture in France since the 1990s.
Guiding Star was born in Tours in 1997 and moved to Paris in 2001. It is composed of 4 members:
- Jacob / Selector & Mc
- Don Mbalo / Selector & MC
- Doble B Sound Engineer / Operator
- Noli-Supaskank / Selector & Mc
- Carlito / Selector Operator
At the end of the 1990s they started traveling the world looking for records. They progressively collected a hudge collection of “dubplate specials” recorded by legendary singers.
(A “dubplate special” is a customized song, recorded specifically for a sound system crew or a DJ. In such a song, the singer changes the lyrics to pay homage to the Crew.)
Guiding Star will discover exclusive songs sang by numerous legendary artists like: Bunny WAILER, Ken BOOTH, Alton ELLIS, John HOLT, Errol DUNKLEY, Marcia GRIFFITS, THE MELODIANS, Barrington LEVY, Don CARLOS, Max ROMEO, Michael ROSE, Mighty DIAMONDS, MORGAN HERITAGE, STEEL PULSE, THIRD WORLD, TOOT'S & THE MAYTALS, U-ROY, SiZZLA, KONSHENS, TARRUS RYLEY, DUB INCORPORATION, ALBOROSIE, AKON, and many other Jamaican, African, West Indian and European artists.
They will bring you on a musical journey along the different reggae music styles… From the “Foundation” reggae music songs to the last Jamaican dancehall and West Indian Soca tunes, through the Rub-a-dub, Digital and New Roots areas. They will offer you a real initiation to Jamaican, West Indian and African cultures. They are always ready to share good vibration and set the Dancefloor on fire.
They played in Jamaica alongside legendary sound systems like Killamanjaro, Metromedia and Mandela, in Switzerland alongside Rory from the legendary Stone Love Sound.
They won dozens of “sound clashes” in France, Spain, Germany and Belgium,
Switzerland. A “Sound Clash” is a competition between sound system Djs who fight each other by opposing their dubplate specials. Thanks to those sound clashes victories they achieved a European notoriety.
Guiding Star has made more than a thousand shows around France Europe the West Indies and in Jamaica where they have a real audience.
In Paris, they played at the Batofar, Gibus, Locomotive, Maroquinerie, Nouveau
Casino.
They also played at the Ja'Sound Festival 2006 (France), Rototom Reggae Sunsplash, Festival 2007 (Italia), Reggae Ethnic Session and Real Beat 2009 (Czech republic), U-Club en 2008 (Germany) and Rêve d'Envies Festival 2004 (Corsica) featuring the jamaican singer "Chronicle".
They are organized many many musical events and European tours for Jamaican artists like :
CHRONICLE (JA), FANTAN MOJAH (JA), RANKING JOE (NY), ROBERT LEE (UK),
EARL SIXTEEN (UK), AL CAMPBELL (UK), MICHAEL PROPHET (UK), DENNIS
ALCAPON (UK), ANTHONY JOHNSON (UK),
or French artists such as LYRICSON, DADDY MORY (RAGGASONIC), DADY NUTTEA, BIGA RANX, IZNOGOOD, MAJESTY, JUNIOR ZY, ROD ANTON.
